What's New at LCN?
LCN FAST™ Power Adjust Makes Setting Door Closer Spring Power Easy

PRINCETON, Illinois--May 30, 2001...A new spring power adjustment design from LCN makes it fast and accurate to determine the current door closer spring power setting and adjust it to match door conditions. The new FAST™ Power Adjust feature is standard on LCN 4040 Series door closers. It allows installers to quickly identify and adjust spring power using only an allen wrench.

Until now, the correct door closer spring adjustment has been difficult to determine. Wide differences in door conditions, such as interior vs. exterior doors, friction from weather stripping, or positive pressure from air conditioning, make on-site adjustment necessary. Most installers, because they cannot determine the correct spring power setting, simply increase the latch speed when they encounter problems with the door latching. However, this can put the door out of control and negate the closer's function of protecting all the components of the opening. In a door closer, springs provide the power to close the door, while the hydraulic regulation keeps the door under control. Adjusting the spring power instead of the hydraulic settings keeps the door in control and eliminates problems with exit devices, locks, hinges and other door elements. Most closers have ample spring power available and can be adjusted to provide considerably more closing power if required. LCN door closers can be adjusted from Size 1 (the lightest spring), which accommodates ADA closing speed requirements to Size 6 (the strongest spring), for very wide doors or doors that require more power to close.

The new FAST Power Adjust improves closer installation in two ways. On new or existing installations, a bright green dial on the end of the closer body lets the installer see the current spring power setting at a glance. If adjustment is necessary, it can be done quickly and easily with an allen wrench. With the dial settings, the installer can know the exact setting instead of randomly increasing or decreasing the spring power. This makes door closer installation faster, easier, and more accurate, and helps to ensure code compliance. It also eliminates a leading cause of callbacks and helps prevent door damage.
